Recently, a valued client shared that his company is so overwhelmed with orders, they needed to start multiple 12-hour shifts. Employees work four days “on” and take three days “off” to keep up with the influx. I asked him what brought about the amazing uptick in orders. He responded, “Hard work.” Thinking his answer was too simple, I pressed him further and he admitted that over a year ago he made contact with a company that needed their services. He was persistent in contacting them and answering all of their questions. It became clear to me that my client friend had gone beyond what’s expected in order to win their business. Not only did they procure a lot of orders from this one organization, but also from its regional companies.
Rather than relying on dumb luck, most companies’ success is the result of consistent hard work. The effort and sacrifice individuals put in to secure a bid or build a prototype is directly linked to successful results. Rarely is success a matter of being in the right place at the right time. More often, it has more to do with the convergence of hard work, great ideas, and personal connection that lead to true success…and perhaps some lucky opportunities.
