Marketing on Facebook vs. Twitter

Social Media

If your business is developing a social media strategy, you may be wondering about advertising on Facebook and Twitter. While both offer similar tools, they should be approached in a different ways. In this article, our goal is not to say which is better, but to provide insight on each. Both can be used effectively.

Facebook is great for reaching out to your target audience on a more personal level. Facebook offers an opportunity to communicate with your customers about your business or products. It also gives your customers a place to talk about your products and business.

Facebook ads provide tools to help you reach your target audience. You can select the desired location of your audience by country, city, or postal code. You can also choose their age range, gender, and interests. After you set the filters for your ad, Facebook shows you how large your potential audience is. When you have set everything up, Facebook will give you a price per click or per 1,000 impressions (views). Your ad is then displayed on the right side of the page. It’s also possible to purchase “promoted stories.” These are ads that appear directly in the users’ news feed.

Advertising on Twitter is a bit different. We usually say that social media should never be treated like a billboard. But Twitter advertising is sometimes an exception to this rule. This form of advertising is quick and must be memorable. Your message needs to capture the viewer’s attention in a split second before he scrolls past.

Twitter ads are less obvious and look more natural because they appear as a tweet in the user’s feed, often driving more user interaction. Like Facebook, Twitter allows you to target specific locations and interests of the people you’d like to reach. Twitter ads also enable you to promote specific tweets or your whole account. The one downside is that users are almost perpetually receiving updates, and your tweets may be overlooked. If you are a small business with only a few followers, it is even less likely your tweets will be seen or shared.

A good social media strategy uses both Facebook and Twitter. But if you are new to the social media game, you may want to start with just one of these advertising options. Don’t be afraid to check out your competition and see what networks they use. Determine what works best for your organization.
