Social media marketing continues to grow and grow, and its importance grows right along with it. While many companies are latching on to social media marketing, others still don’t use it. There could be many reasons for this, but the fact remains that a social media presence is significant for every business.

Numbers don’t like to lie—so that’s what this article is going to highlight. Here are seven statistics to convince your boss of the benefits of social media marketing:

1. When online, people spend one out of every seven minutes on Facebook.

Users typically spend 10.5 billion minutes on the platform, without mobile devices. That is a lot of time! Go where the people are—Facebook.

2. Every second, 8,000 users like a photo on Instagram.

One minute quickly turns into 480,000 likes on photos. That is just 60 seconds! We could compute this rate per hour, day, week, or even year, but I think you get the point—lots of people are on Instagram just waiting to interact.

3. On average, over 400 million tweets are posted each day.

Twitter is home to millions of users, and it continues to expand—but this statistic shows the actual interaction taking place on this platform. Not only are people spending time there, but they are communicating with each other as well.

4. LinkedIn has over three million company pages and one billion endorsements.

LinkedIn is a more professional social media platform. It’s where content is shared on a more professional level, rather than just friends hanging out (like on Facebook). Because of this, more businesses spend time on LinkedIn.

5. 80% of all Pinterest pins are actually repins.

This statistic shows the amount of material shared by others. If you actively share your own content on Pinterest, chances are people will repin it for their followers to see. A user’s reach expands through repins. Bottom line: one of your business’ pins could turn into many repins.

6. Around 46% of web users look toward social media when making a purchase.

Online shopping is becoming bigger and better, and it is apparent that social media is a go-to place. If you’re on social media, your leads and customers have a good chance of gaining exposure to your marketing campaigns and products.

7. Social media generates almost double the marketing leads of trade shows, telemarketing, daily mail, or PPC.

Social media produces more leads in its marketing than the traditional ways of the past. Social media is where people make connections, and where leads are created.

These seven statistics show the importance of social media marketing and the benefits of using it to enhance your marketing strategy. How can your business take its social media presence to the next level?
